This time of the year is when I begin to plan how to give back to my roots. I have a lot of sentimental attachment to the then University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University.

My parents had both graduated from that citadel of learning so I imagine how proud they must have been to send their 15 year old to study Engineering at that University.

Our campus is beautiful, and I want to support that legacy of beauty. The landscaping is stunning with lush hedges and green grass. I was too young to appreciate my environment way back in those days. All I did then was study, go for fellowship, eat and sleep. 

If I went back now, I would wake up and run free before the day breaks. I would watch the sun rise and set over the campus dam. I would run the Agric Complex footpath. I would run on Road 18 and watch the mountains. I would run on Road 1 and just absorb the beauty called ‘Unife’!

I am encouraging the students to open their eyes and see the campus beauty. Spending time outdoors and appreciating nature has a way of opening minds, stimulating brains and increasing the ability to absorb new knowledge. Running releases natural endorphins which lead to healthier life style choices.

You are cordially invited to join us as we run the Inaugural Edition of the Ile-Ife Heritage Marathon on February 4, 2018. Starting from our beautiful campus, we will run through the Ancient City of Ile-Ife and end the run with a Royal Reception at the Ooni of Ile-Ife’s Palace.
